I often see someone comparing himself to a neighbor or co-worker and describing that person as "rich."  His criteria seems to be a person who simply makes more than he does.  For instance, I once heard a guy say, "Thomas has two cars.  He's rich."  They don't even look at other factors, including Thomas just getting a second car for his wife.  Or, maybe Thomas is deeply in debt.

I sometimes hear about farmers being land rich, but cash poor.

So what is your criteria?  Do you go by some of those income categories set out by groups?  Is it more attitude?

If I had to quantify.. i would say it is either someone who earns $1M per year or has a total worth of $2 million. This would include savings, stock, bonds, stock options, business value, and the cost of the property at the time they originally purchased. Now. do I care if someone is "rich"? Not in the least. I work with some of these folks. Some are good people and some are not.

Rich: $10M+ NW, 20% in liquid minimum

Wealthy: $40M+ NW, 20% in liquid minimum

(Liquid = cash, cash equivalent, stocks, crypto, and bonds)

Might have to increase these numbers by 20% by 2030

Exclude personal belongings (car, home items, primary house)

By the way, the Rothschild dynasty had $5B back in 1805 by some estimates.

1805. If you invested that $5B and got a 3% return per year (bottom of the bottom of estimates of potential returns) it would be around $3T today.

If you took the combined holdings of our (((hidden, globalisT cabal))) it would be in the tens of trillions. Take the top 20 richest people on Forbes and their combined NW is still dwarfed by Rothschild (and there are probably 20-40 other dynasties).

Anyone who thinks people like Elon Musk, Bill “Epstein” Gates, Zuck the Cuck, Buffett “I love bank bailouts” the Crony Capitalist, etc. are the richest people in the world are

Wealth of theoretical knowledge to anything else is possible, or wealth of understanding what will never happen twice, which outlasts the other and which destroys both?

Richness is knowing the difference.

I think the number depends on where you live. In some countries, having $100,000 is very wealthy. Charles Schwab does a Modern Wealth Survey...this year, the number set by the people they surveyed put "rich" at a net worth of just over $2 million.

The way I define it is simple. Someone who is rich has enough in assets to live comfortably, meet their need (including medical) and do the things they enjoy (travel, drive expensive cars, etc.) for as long as they live. Someone who is wealthy has enough assets to do that for themselves and at least one subsequent generation of beneficiaries.

misperceptions are the root cause...

just as some would believe I'm rich, others would consider me poor....

being rich as a person holds more weight than anything monetary...Mother Theresa comes to mind...

Want to be needed vs need to be wanted. Dichotomy or paradigm. Hypothetical or hyperbole. Possible or probably never completely accurate which is where every reality of humanity is at currently here.

Rich = more than $12,000,000 as a single person and more than $24,000,000 as a married couple.  Just ask the IRS.

Here's the deal.  No one will always have "good health".  So, its best to have ****-buckets of money to pay for good healthcare, in addition to a McMansion, boats, cars, motorcycles and motorcycle-stable, dick-pills, big tits, face-lifts, Japanese bourbon, fancy friends, and a diamond encrusted platinum belt buckle.  
 
 

it's all perspective...once had a kid at a gas station tell me I was rich because I bought a full tank of gas.

Success vs rich.

Having a reachable goal makes more sense than grasping at "rich".
A quasi-composite of some of the previous replies are great examples.

Free from want and good health. That is success.
The amount of money you possess is a mere part of that.

Every reality is conditional obedience to power of suggestion and within that nothing is free. Always lifetimes paying the cost of others demanding rights to feel exempt from adapt or become extinct time being alive as ancestrally here.

I am not jealous of someone who is rich or wealthy in general. Will say that I have seen some properties over the years and thought, "Damn, that would be nice. " One of which was in Thompson Falls, Montana. It is was northeast of town just a bit. Spectacular views, what appeared to be two streams on the property so great fishing, and two log cabins (one very large.. 3000 sq. feet and one that was maybe 1000 sq. feet).

I remember going to my mechanics house. He is a mechanical genius and a hard worker-
He has a cute chubby wife and adorable kids!.
I'm sitting in the car- looking at his house...  It's all falling down. Car junk in the yard...
A little mini piggy in the yard-chickens cats- sheets hung on the windows....
I thought- my Gawd... I couldn't live like that?
then I had another thought? 
He was free of all the society stress... Imagine living like that.
Imagine what the freedom must feel like. TO NOT care.    
I was brought up- as upper middle class nyc kid. I worry about everything... things should be nice  and  perfect. I admire him in sick way!
