Never had any desire to visit the middle east. Architecture is fascinating and I love the food but the people seem to take themselves FAR too seriously. I find it telling that there is a busy port of entry between Israel and the Palestinian territories while there is a locked gate guarded 24/7 by machine gun nests between Palestinians and Egypt and Jordan.  There is definitely some culpability in their suffering that can be attributed to Palestinians Muslim neighbors.

I found this survey, (albeit from 2014) that showed a marked decrease in the number of Palestinians wanting a two-state solution, and a dramatic increase in the number calling for the elimination of Israel entirely.

Your polls were in 2014. The latest polls, 2022-2023 are here. Notice how inconsistent it all is. Some of the polls showed Hamas at 56%...and 34%...and back up to 40%...then back down to 25%...etc...It can't be trusted. It also shows that that 41% don't want either choice.

in fact it has been so effective the past 50 years that israel treated the people in gaza like crap and anyone who complained were labeled as jew haters.

We can't assume that life under Fatah would have been any different for the people of Gaza than under Hamas, can we?
Bottom line is that the majority of Gaza are still responsible for the consequences of their vote, so I frankly have little sympathy for their current plight of the war against Israel by the government that they supported.  The majority WANTED "armed conflict" and that's exactly what they've gotten.

Given a choice among three options for “ending the occupation and building an independent state,” 21 percent prefer “negotiations,” 22 percent “peaceful popular resistance” and 52 percent select “armed conflict.”
