I came so close to signing up in 1979, till I found out an E-3 was making about $6k a year. Within a few years I was making 5 times that amount and actually got paid for the hours I worked.
I was probably a little too much of a nonconformist hippy type back then, I made the right choice for me.

why? if you want to lead people in self deception one has to show they are exceptions to occupying time now. Symbolism rules reality.
