SCOTUS just said that they don't have a dog in the fight at this time.

These weapons are not even close to being like machine gun.
There are many states that have bans on these scary black firearms,Bidencrimefamily » 16 Dec 2023, 1:07 pm » wrote: ↑ Till the Trump justices the Supreme Court protected semiautos.

And now with this ruling they can ban them.Huey » 16 Dec 2023, 1:11 pm » wrote: ↑ There are many states that have bans on these scary black firearms,
So in those states you can buy one of these:
I am often asked "Can I own an AR-15 in Massachusetts?" The answer is YES. You can own any rifle or shotgun, if it was manufactured before September 12, 1994. Any semi-automatic rifle that is not specifically named in the Assault Weapons Ban is legal. However, it may not have any more then two "evil features", such as a pistol grip, collapsible stock, removable magazine, flash hider, or bayonet mount. All rifles are subject to the Massachusetts 10-round limit, unless the magazines are pre-ban. All rifles must have a barrel longer then 16 inches, to avoid additional federal tax requirements as short-barreled rifles.
And this:

They operate EXACTLY the same. They just have some exterior features removed that have nothing to do with how the rifles works
Shhhh don't tell anybody.Huey » 16 Dec 2023, 1:21 pm » wrote: ↑ No, they can't. If their ban is similar to places like CA, MA, NY or NJ they are not called assault weapons. Did you bother to click on the links I gave you?
But SSSHHH! Don't tell anyone. You can still get a black scary weapon that operates exactly like an AR 15 stye weapon, Even looks like it with a few less exterior features.

The ban prevents people from owning semiautomatic weapons, such as the one used in that shooting, as well as magazines that enable handguns and rifles to fire off many rounds without reloading.2 days ago

The Illinois law says that any gun that doesn't have to be reloaded after every shot. That's the one that got upheld.Huey » 16 Dec 2023, 1:32 pm » wrote: ↑ But much of the confusion surrounding the law centers on the fact that it also restricts features that would classify an otherwise acceptable gun as an “assault weapon.” These include thumbhole, folding, telescoping and detachable stocks, pistol grips on rifles, flash suppressors, grenade launchers, barrel shrouds that allow users to hold the barrel without being burned, and the capacity to accept ammunition belts.

What you are not understanding is the manufactures build weapons to within what the law says and market it under a different name. That is why I posted the CA, MA, NY and NJ ban compliant ARs.
You have to look how the bill defines an Assault Weapon.
Here ya go on those definitions:

The law prohibits the possession, manufacture or sale of semiautomatic rifles and high-capacity magazines. It takes effect Jan. 1. Last month, a three-judge panel of the 7th District U.S. Court of Appeals voted 2-1 in favor of the law, refusing a request by gun rights groups to block it.2 days agoHuey » 16 Dec 2023, 1:41 pm » wrote: ↑ Nope. Please post a link.
The Illinois law restricts the sale and purchase of semi-automatic "assault weapons," including AR-15 and AK-47 rifles, and large-capacity ammunition feeding devices, which are defined as a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition for long guns and more than 15 rounds for handguns. People who lawfully had assault weapons before the law was passed can keep them, but must submit an affidavit to state police by Jan. 1.

They are banning what Illinios defines is and assault rifle. They can still own a semiautomatic as I posted. You need to research this more or stick to a topic you know. This aint it. One more time:
