Ukraine has been getting destroyed. It would literally have been better for Ukraine to have been hit by a large asteroid or to have had a serious of magnitude seven earthquakes or to have suffered a great famine followed by a pestilence. What has happened to Ukraine eclipses the human tragedy presaged by the fall of the USSR, which left tens of millions of ethnic Russians stateless, their only citizenship being now defunct - paperless, jobless, stateless beggars living among the Ungratefuls and Schadenfreudists they had dominated for centuries, the pensioners left without pension, and the administrators without careers. 

And this war was UTTERLY avoidable. Putin spent 7 years trying to avert it through diplomacy. His massing of forces on Ukraine's borders was unmistakable, universally acknowledged, and resulted in nothing but a ****-you and a show-my-*** from NATO and their hand picked stooge in Ukraine.

Another ominous trend highlighting the desperation of President Zelenskyy’s government is the plan to radically increase the number of women serving in the military, despite the fact that women are at a severe disadvantage to men when it comes to close combat.

Then you have stories and anecdotes describing the life expectancy at the frontlines of Bakhmut being  hours and poorly trained Ukrainian troops being rushed into combat. These kinds of stories are legion, especially in independent or non-Western media. Combined with all the other signs, this makes a strong case that Col. Macgregor’s numbers (400k-plus KIA) aren't only plausible, but also help explain why Ukrainian government actions are looking increasingly desperate.

Given the strong evidence that Ukraine is suffering country-destroying casualties, talk of a stalemate, much less of successful offensive territory-gaining operations, is more about face-saving than any realistic chance of Ukraine avoiding losing.

Hence, the only moral path forward for the United States is to tell President Zelenskyy it's well past the time to sue for peace and that he must accept neutrality and the loss of the regions that seceded from Ukraine in 2014.

This is a bitter pill to swallow for Ukrainian nationalists and those in the United States who hoped Ukraine would do far more damage to Russia, but the alternative is accelerating Ukraine’s diminishing chances of remaining a viable nation-state, a whole lot more fruitless Ukrainian deaths, and peace terms substantially worse than those that can be negotiated today.

I am not attacking anything or calling foul on anything.  I merely point out that the mechanism that RATED the US Military 2nd behind Russia was not exactly objective and was based on 17000 disparate subjective opinions from around the world.... the same group of opinionated people ranked the USA as #1 in Power,  (Russia was #3) and the survey's definition of "power" was:

"The world’s most powerful countries also are the ones that consistently dominate news headlines, preoccupy policymakers and shape global economic patterns. Their foreign policies and military budgets are tracked religiously. When they make a pledge, at least some in the international community trust – or fear – they will keep it. These countries project their influence on the world stage."

I think that Joe Biden should be quite pleased that, in the summer of 2023, 17,000 citizens from around the globe felt that the country HE led, led the world in POWER.  Don't you agree?

I mistook who you were critiquing. I thought that you were critiquing the bias checker's methodology - not the methodology of the rating authority.

May be so.  Prior to Desert Storm, in 1990, Iraq's Army was rated 4th in the world.  DIdn't work out so well.

I certainly don't think that a nation awash in unemployment, economic recession and in the midst of a deadly global pandemic was a really great inheritance for Biden and I think he has not squandered anything.  As someone who operated jointly with NATO forces for my entire career and who believes in the significance of that alliance, I am most pleased with Biden's successful efforts to reinvigorate it after four years of abuse at the hands of Trump.
