I don't have much sympathy for the guy who flipped off the cop.  The cop pulled him over, had a chat with him, and then let him go.  Then, the angry asshole cured out the cop and flipped him off on the video.  He was looking for a problem.

I'm siding with the cop on this one - something's wrong with the dude.

Well, you would be wrong.  The cop can and did arrest the guy.  Whether the charge sticks or not - that's up to a prosecutor or a jury.  It could be disorderly conduct.  Obstruction of justice.  Distracted driving.  Road Rage.  Reckless Driving.  You pick.

In Fantasy World, cops are citizens elevated to a higher standard of conduct.
For them to be effective at the job,
they should be treated with some level of decorum above drunks-in-a-parking-lot.

With expectations that they not abuse the power/privilege of the badge we, in return, do not poke the bear.

Life ain't going that way, but we can dream.
Please seat yourself.

I'm just not sure if you flip off a cop he can arrest you...
And in this case the cop did
The prosecutor simply didn't want to pursue the case.  But, we've all seen cases pursued against people over much less.  Reference Trump.

Let me ask you this. What if the guy made the "pistol" sign at the cop rather than shooting him the bird?  Can he be arrested for that?  I don't see any difference between one and the other.  Both are expressions of anger and aggression toward a police officer.

I've never been convicted of a felony.
Cops are pieces of ****.
They're a legal gang hardly no different than MS 13 or the Proud Boys.

I think that the defendant needs to find better uses of his time. He was only pulled over. He was not arrested nor arraigned. No indictments, no jail time. It was inconvenient but not life altering in any way. Get over it.

I don't think so!
I would have to look at actual state code of Vermont. I have a hard time believing that you can arrest someone for flipping you off when viewed in isolation. However, the defendant seems to have been looking for a confrontation.
