I remember over the years her being turned down for parole...it has finially happened:

Leslie Van Houten, the youngest of Charles Manson's former followers, was released from prison Tuesday after 53 years behind bars. She was “released to parole supervision” on July 11, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

According to the CDCR, Van Houten, 73, will “have a three-year maximum parole term with a parole discharge review occurring after one year.” Van Houten was convicted, along with other members of the Manson “family,” of the brutal 1969 slayings of Los Angeles grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife Rosemary.

Van Houten was released Tuesday morning and taken to a confidential transitional facility. Her Lawyer Rich Pfeiffer says she will probably not be at the facility for a long time because “she is so ready" to be out in the world, he tells PEOPLE. “She has some computer skills from the job she had in prison. She has got a master’s degree. She is very bright. She has got a lot of support from family and friends. She will do just fine.”

“She has multiple options of where to go live,” he says. “People have offered her places at their homes. She’s had job offers.”

I always found it odd that Charles Manson was labeled a murderer when he never killed anyone.

We shouldn't even be discussing this.  She should have been executed for the murders she committed.  Leslie Van Houten is IMHO the poster child for why all convicted murderers should be swiftly executed.  Liberals always want to let these **** out of prison - ALWAYS.

Actually I support her parole.

She spent 53 years in prison and she was not at the Tate house.
She was at the second murder house and I feel her crime that night was minimal.

If this crime didn't involve famous people I'm sure she would have been released after 15 years.

She was a 17 year old runaway .
Her stabbings were after the woman died according to the other parties there.
53 years in prison...

California has a death penalty but no one gets executed

I do not believe that she only stabbed the woman after she was dead.  I find that to be all too convenient to try and protect one of their owns.
I don't care if she was 12.  I am for the swift execution of murders committed against innocent, unsuspecting people by depraved assholes.

                   Leslie Van Houten put a pillowcase over Mrs. LaBianca's head ---- wrapped a lamp cord around her neck --- and held her down as Patricia Krenwinkel stabbed her repeatedly until the knife bent... Leslie then continued restrain Rosemary and screamed for Tex Watson (who was in the living room killing Mr. Leno LaBianca) to come into the bedroom to help finish murdering the woman.....

                   Most would be physically sickened by the slaughter, or at the least want to immediately flee the house.... This wasn't the case with Leslie.... Instead, she took a shower --- stole one of Mrs. LaBianca's dresses and a purse ---- then proceed to eat cake & cheese from the dead victim's refrigerator...                  

                  Some try to minimize Leslie's participation by claiming she didn't deliver the death blows, and that she was only guilty of abusing a corpse ---  suggesting the 16 knife wounds inflicted on Rosemary Labianca were all postmortem..  She's as guilty as Watson & Krenwinkel... Leslie was angry because she had not been asked to participate in the previous evening bloodbath at the Tate home.... Leslie also admitted she knew there would be murders committed on that 2nd night, and wanted to participate.... 

                 The same argument & case could be made for the release of fellow Manson Family Member Bruce Davis.... He's also been locked up over 50 years --- convicted of 2 murders, without having delivered the death blow to either victims... In fact, one of the murders was that of Gary Hinman, and Davis wasn't even there when Bobby Beausoleil (with the help of Susan Atkins) killed Gary.

           Some try to make the argument that Leslie was young, vulnerable, easily manipulated etc..... The truth is the Mansons was not the first drug & venereal disease infested commune she'd belonged to.... Leslie was already a thieving, drugged out whore and seasoned scumbag before landing at Spahn Ranch...

I'm taking considering her age at the time and the fact she spent over 50 years in jail...

And if these murders weren't so highly publicized I'm sure she would have been released a long time ago..

Atkins, Manson, Krenwickle and Watson should have been executed in the 70s..
But not Van Houten...in my opinion

           I agree that had the murders not been so notorious and savage in nature, Leslie would have probably been released decades ago....

           But what I also believe is Leslie and her co-defendants did little to garner sympathy or endear themselves to the public with their outrageous behavior at the trial --- particularly their taunting & mocking of the victim's families who were in the courtroom --- smirking & singing --- disruptions & publicity stunts --- shaving their heads and carving X's between their eyes... 

Let her go, it's not like she trespassed on 1/6 or something.

Nothing to see but just wanted to go by and imagine.

             It really is one the most researched, popular and written about True Crime sagas in History..... So many books, movies, documentaries etc....  So many characters and pieces to the story, including celebrity connections such as Roman Polanski, Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger, Dennis Wilson, Producer Terry Melcher (son of Doris Day )... It will always be the subject of study & discussion

            It doesn't surprise me.... There is a huge online community of Manson Crime enthusiasts and discussion boards, as well as collectors of everything associated with the story from memorabilia, to real items connected to the crime and participants...
