Public Schools are for retards and delinquents who need baby sitting from 9-5.  No one cares what Public Schools do any longer. If parents actually love their children, they send them to private schools or home-school them.

That may happen in the future but not for quite some time.

More like.. the parents will not allow it. Been married to a teacher for 15 years and my opinion of the parents has greatly changed. Just last week.. had one that called in to scream at the staff that her daughter should not being getting penalized for missing 16 of 18 days for what is essentially no reason. I am not sure how much more braindead a parent can be than this.

This is true.  There is no shortage of really stupid, self-entitled parents with bratty children.  And, because of these self-entitled kids and their stupid, thoughtless, entitlement-centered parents, public schools as well as community colleges are now nothing more than warehouses for mostly worthless people.  Many state universities and, as we've seen, even "Ivy League" colleges have succumbed to the same low-rent thinking.

Good private schools don't put up with this nonsense.  They don't, because they have lists of kids who would love to take your "privileged" kid's spot.

The parents are lazy. Today's parents fight the "technology" battle where mine did not really. Yes, we had cable TV but the internet was not in existence yet. The internet while good in some ways.. is too much for most. It gives them excuses for being lazy, stupid, or entitled. Just fish around long enough on the internet and there is someone who agrees with you on something. They are backed by experts.. don't you know. Some will say that this only happens in those schools attached to low-income areas.. well, she taught in the high income school for 8 years and it was just as bad.

I know what you mean.  Some parents are lazy; and the occasional few are self-entitled assholes.  Technology will always be a thing to be reckoned with.  For our family it was keeping the kids away from cell phones and having their own computers for as long as possible.  We had one "family computer" which sat perched on top of the kitchen counter, for as long as we could get away with that.  In high school, kids are now required to have a laptop.  No cell phones until age 12 or 13 either, and even then, they were basic with no apps loaded on them.

My kids try to come up with excuses as to why they are unable to do this or that. I do not let it pass. Its simple.. you are lazy, do not want to do it, or lack the courage to do it. My grandfather, my main role model, was not one for small talk or excuses. He would cut someone to shreds in just a few sentences.. frequently it was his conservative counterparts. No one was safe.

If we could afford it, I would homeschool my kids. There is no need to have them on laptops or cell phones until later on. That being said, they do not possess phones, tablets, or a computer. We have a family laptop but it is so old as to be useless.

The one thing about cell phones is that it is hard to not give your kid one and expect them to participate in sports, club activities, etc.  You can try and keep them on the homestead and away from other groups, but good luck with that!

going to hold off as long as I can. My son will probably never be in team sports. My daughter.. she is quite outgoing and so the battle is going to come soon. Have seriously considered a move out to rural Nevada or some place less populated than my current abode just for this reason. Less stimuli, less chance to be associated with unsavory characters.

UAW said that about automation. The only thing "saving" the workers is the total number of parts in a modern vehicle.
A Model T had a little less than 1900 parts in the build.
Today's Toyota SUV has about 30,000 parts.

Ford got his car down to an average of about 3.7 seconds per part.
Toyota is down to about 2 seconds per part thanks to automation (among other things).

If they could build a car without human hands at all, they would. People suck. ;)
Please seat yourself.
