Yes sir. We don't have any collards, which we usually do. The peas are for luck, and the collards are for good financial health.

I've never been a big fan of collards, but I will eat them on new years if I get yhe chance. My old next door neighbor grows his own and serves them with a fried egg on top. I may go knock on his door with a bowl in my hand a little later this afternoon. 😂

You better eat your black eyed peas Mack, or you'll end up living in a van down by the river.

I used to know this old Gal from out in the sticks in Tennessee..... She used to make the Cornbread  ,in a Cast Iron skillet with bacon grease... She would also cut fresh kernels of Corn off the Cob to add to the Batter... She'd serve it warmed with butter on top... I could eat it every day..

She also made Hush Puppies that she'd serve with Honey-Butter... Black Eyed Peas went good with Country Ham or skillet Fried Chicken..

         Damn, now I'm hungry

Bob
If you mixed the peas with the spicy margarita, you might end up in the hospital.

Proceed with caution.

Actually the Vols are traditionally a football school. They’ve had some good basketball teams over the years though.

Did you mean the Villanova Wildcats?  They’ve been good over the years. In the 85 championship game played here in Lexington they upset the Georgetown Hoyas. Rollie Massamino was a heluva coach.
