The republic was lost in 1963, if not earlier. 

It is now the empire in the balance - and it will be lost none to soon, by my lights. 

It needs ta GO! It is ONLY the death of empire that can restore the republic - though I do not see such restoration as the best possible outcome. Balkanization and deracination would be preferable.
