I've heard a few people saw John Kennedy would be a a moderate Republican today.  They say he lowered taxes and was for gun rights.

Kennedy publicly identified with Liberalism while running against Richard Nixon in 1960..He gave a speech to the Liberal Party based in New York City..
Kennedy supported government health insurance for seniors which became Medicare under Lyndon Johnson. And his call for Civil Rights legislationI> was crucial. His bill became the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

These are solidly Liberal positions. Yet in private Kennedy expressed frustration and even disdain for Liberals. I don't think John F. Kennedy would be a Moderate Republican today.

He would be a liberal republican today.  But it does not matter, only to know about your mistakes.  Kennedy, Truman, Roosevelt are the old guard.  The very old guard.  You need a totally new way of thinking.
