Internal turmoil that plagued the National Rifle Association five years ago resurfaced Tuesday during testimony at a civil corruption trial in New York, when the gun rights group's former chief financial officer was asked about a contract agreement for then-NRA president Oliver North.
 Wilson "Woody" Phillips, the chief steward of the NRA's finances from 1993 to 2018, said during his second day of testimony that he was aware that North in 2018 was entering into a contract with Ackerman McQueen, the group's longtime advertising firm. And while the firm then sought reimbursement from the NRA for paying North more than $1 million a year, Phillips testified that he didn't bring the contract to the attention of the nonprofit group's audit committee.

 The contract, which involved North working as a host for an NRATV web series, was notable because the position of NRA president is typically unpaid and considered ceremonial.

 North, a retired U.S. Marine lieutenant colonel who was at the center of the Reagan-era Iran-Contra scandal, would step down as president in April 2019, less than a year after accepting the job. His departure from the organization came amid reports that he was battling with Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's chief executive officer, over alleged financial impropriety with the organization's spending and that he threatened to leak damaging information about LaPierre if he did not resign as CEO.

Oh, that reminds me, I'm going to have to throw some money at the NRA-ILA.

For those of you who don't know, the NRA-ILA, is a branch of the NRA established in 1975 designated the Institute for Legislative Action (ILA). It is the "lobbying" arm of the National Rifle Association of America. ILA is responsible for preserving the right of all law-abiding individuals in the legislative, political, and legal arenas, to purchase, possess and use firearms for legitimate purposes as guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

So, if you are going to donate to the NRA, it would be best to donate to the NRA-ILA.

Most of the internal strife at the NRA was caused by Democrats when it was headquartered in New York. Sure, Wayne could have been a better steward of the funds. He got spanked, is still rich as ****, but he's gone now.

The NRA is a worthy organization for people who support gun owner's rights. Is it perfect? No. But, its the best we have. I encourage all gun owners to become active in it. Get a membership that allows you to vote for the Board. Contribute. Do more than just sit around and bitch about it.

It's always gonna be worth twice as much as at some other point in time..

Over the past 12 years, gold is up 1.25%/annum.

Well, then, don't sarcastically criticize the NRA publications for promoting a worthwhile product like gold or silver coins/bullion.   There's a lot worse things you could spend your money on.  FWIW, some stuff advertised in there is garbage.  Still, who cares.  I don't have to buy it.
