I don't really care.  All I care about is that I have been calling those bases by their old names for over 40 years.  If I call them by their old names it shouldn't be held against me.

nor should changing those names to reflect our societal disapproval of white supremacy and insurrection be held against those who did so.

In downtown Augusta, Maine, there was a bridge over the Kennebec River named the Father Curran Bridge after a long-time parish priest of St. Augustine's Catholic church.  St. Augustins sat high atop Sand Hill which had a large French-speaking population from the days when the town had a big textile mill and lots of laborers came down from Quebec and New Brunswick to work there... and all the little old French-Canadian ladies who lived there adored the man..

Until scores of younger catholics started telling stories of Father Curran's multitudinous sexual assaults and then the City Council renamed it the Calumet Bridge.  

And nobody calls it the Father Curran Bridge anymore, but I imagine, secretly, some of those old Canuck spinsters up on Sand Hill still secretly dream of their favorite priest... like you dream of your Racist Confederate General "Old Rock" Benning.

Yeah...maybe we should name some of the high schools in Jewish neighborhoods in America Adolf Hitler High School just to make SURE nobody forgets!

I don't intend to do it.  It is a 40 year habit.  Plus, I do a lot of work with most of those installations.  We still call them by their old names.

Ft Hood was named by the people of our Greatest Generation who were also  the last  Americans to win a major war.
These Forts are being renamed by those who would need the services of a grief counselor if they ever had to gut and clean a fish.
Having an Illegal Alien loving traitor  like you call  others traitors is most certainly "PURE COMEDY GOLD".

You can't deny that slavery did indeed afford future generations of black people in this Country the opportunity to prosper that they would have never had if their ancestors had never left Africa.

Not at all, but it is an undeniable fact just the same... and I highly doubt that the curriculum changes  push the notion that slavery was a "positive" because of this fact... but it sure is a good talking point.

You are obviously missing the point as there's nothing historical about it...

the last time I was in Germany, in the middle of nowhere, we ran across a small military graveyard filled with German and Russian soldiers preserved by the locals...the placard led us to stop...

the graveyard where my grandparents once were, was a large granite headstone....etched on it was a swatzika and helmet...

we also toured Buchenwald...

needless to say, all grim reminders of an era Germans would love to forget...

If you were a black American man, who volunteered to serve our country in the Army, would you like to go learn how to jump out of airplanes at a place named IN HONOR of a racist slave-owning white supremacist?  Would you think it was a GOOD thing to name places in honor of people like that so that Americans wouldn't ever forget the civil war and the root cause of it?  No different than a Jewish child going to high school at Hitler High.
