Anyone do that?

It's usually based on where you are from or where you live.  Even if you don't like your city politics, you live and die with your team.

But I know some who despise the Yankees because they are from NY.

I only have two teams in sports. Boise State in college football and the Calgary Flames of the NHL. I chose Calgary (even though I grew up in Idaho) because of the tough, scrappy play of Theo Fleury. As a fellow short guy, I admired that he was relentless, driven, and a bit of an ***. He did not let his lack of stature get in the way. That team that i first watched in 1987 was full of scrappy, tough, driven players that won more by effort than innate skill.

I am surprised they did not change their name from the Flames.

Not sure why they kept the name but they were at one time in Atlanta. They were the Atlanta Flames from 1972 to 1980 and as expected.. it did not work out. So they moved the franchise to Calgary where true hockey fans embraced the team.

Cities, yeah. I've always had an affinity for Minnesota.  A progressive place.  The Wild.  Timberwolves.  Twins.  Vikes.
