I would feel better with a white robot. A colored robot would probably not perform its assigned tasks adequately, wake up late, and probably end up stealing from me.

Problems of racial bias in artificial intelligence algorithms and the data used to train large language models like ChatGPT is problematic as racial biases have already appeared.  But this problems also arise in social robots, which have physical bodies modeled on nonthreatening versions of humans or animals and are designed to interact with people. Namely, white people.The aim of the subfield of social robotics called socially assistive robotics is to interact with ever more diverse groups of people. U.S. Many of these children could end up interacting with white robots. No one wants that.In anthropologist Dr.Tamika Brown's article on robotics, she discusses a "cultural imaginary" of what robots are supposed to look like. A cultural imaginary is what is shared through representations in texts, images and films, and which collectively shapes people's attitudes and perceptions. She points out that many of these images stem from science fiction where a disproportionate number of protagonists are colonizers.This cultural imaginary that enshrines robots as white.  What can be done to counter this cultural legacy? After all, all human-machine interaction should be designed with diversity and inclusion in mind.

"Evidence", real evidence, is not something that anyone needs to believe in.  It stands all by itself, regardless of individual beliefs.
