I don't get what's "wrong" with Imperialism (part 1)

I don't get what's "wrong" with imperialism and why some people just keep demonizing it. First of all, some people can't even seem to agree on the definition of imperialism. They can't even seem to agree with each other, let alone anyone else. And I'm not even talking about all the bad arguments they throwing around. "Imperialism is bad because it's bad", "Imperialism is bad because that's what I've been told growing up", "imperialism is bad because I've been taught to hate that word", "Empire bad because the Jedi (cult leaders) say so!", "Imperialism is bad because... I don't know why it's bad, it just is!" It's like they've been brainwashed and can't even think for themselves, they can't come up with a rational argument as to why we should just outright hate imperialism and reject it off-hand. And some of them ask me, "What is your definition of imperialism? what is Imperialism to you?" To which I reply: To me, Imperialism is people getting housing, heating, food, clothes, school education, employment, health care and military protection of civilians and the forgotten men and women not being forgotten and left behind anymore (especially disadvantaged and/or discriminated people).

People had all this and so much more under the rule of Emperor Sheev Palpatine and the Galactic Empire (and their lives were so much better under the rule of the Empire than under the rule of the quarelling, good-for-nothing bureaucrates who kept fighting among them while the Jedi cult leaders sitting on the council went unchallenged as they ordered their underlings/cult members to kill or disappear every single person who didn't share their exact same interpretation of their religion). Yet some idiots would have me believe that these (Sheev and the Imperials) are "the bad guys"? That's pro-Jedi propaganda brainwashing, is what it is. If Imperialism give people all those advantages and benefits especially people who have been so disadvantaged in the past and put dinner on the tables of countless families, then Imperialism doesn't sound bad at all now, does it?

I made a post about this about a year ago right here before I was banned by some radical-Right moron in an attempt to silence me because I support reproductive freedom for women (you'll find explanations and must watch videos in this post detailing the advantages and benefits of Imperialism):

Read the whole post and watch all of the videos to find out more about the advantages and benefits of Imperialism, but I when you start watching the videos, I strongly suggest you start with these:

I don't get what's "wrong" with Imperialism (part 2)

Also, here's some more advantage and benefits of Imperialism that I might or might not have mentioned in my post in the link above:

1. Developing countries gain access to new technologies.
Strong nations bring their technologies to the weaker nations that they are influencing through imperialism. This process has allowed the principles of the Industrial Revolution to spread to the developing world. It has helped nations modernize their economies, grow new crops, and build new infrastructures. Over time, this process of development tends to create safer societies because it allows people from different cultures and ethnicities to communicate more opening.

2. Healthcare access is improved through imperialism.
Strong nations develop their strength because of the overall health of its population. This strength can only be developed through a proactive system of healthcare access. When people can go to a doctor with confidence, knowing that their issues will be directly addressed, it allows them to continue pursuing their dreams. Modern healthcare access, through imperialism, has provided vaccines, medication, and modern knowledge to the developing world and this has saved countless lives.

3. Agriculture production is also improved.
An example of U.S. imperialism provides evidence for this benefit. With the sugarcane market depressed in the Hawaiian Islands, local farmers and agricultural workers were struggling to make ends meet. The U.S. was using tariffs as a way to impose their will on the islands. By forcing the people to join the United States, the tariff was removed, which then created economic opportunities. Improved irrigation and cultivation methods helped to restore the viability of the crops as well.

4. Defensive networks are created through imperialism.
When the world becomes somewhat borderless, it becomes safer for the average person to pursue opportunities. Acts of imperialism may dominate “weaker” cultures, but they also provide a stronger defense. By creating common borders that are ultimately under the ownership of the strong nation, more people are able to benefit from modern defensive technologies. Although this benefit can come at a high cost, the defensive expenses can then be spread out through more households, which lessens the per capita cost of such a network.

5. Imperialism exposes people to new ethnicities and cultures.
Forging forward as a strong nation creates opportunities to find new cultures and learn from their ways. Every ethnicity and culture have certain strengths that make them unique. The stronger nation can then take these strengths and replicate them on a mass scale. This may reduce the identity of certain cultures over time, though it also creates multiple benefits for the whole of humanity.

6. There is better market access because of imperialism.
Territory acquisition is not the only priority of nations engaged in the practice of imperialism. There is a desire to seek out more markets for product and service access as well. By moving into the Caribbean, access to tropical agricultural items is possible, which is why Britain, France, the Netherlands, and the United States have all sought to establish a presence on the islands in the region.

7. More educational opportunities exist.
Imperialism may change cultures because of how the strong dominates the weak. It also provides new opportunities for those cultures to learn. Modern educational curriculums and teaching methods come with the practice of imperialism, helping more people gain a basic understanding of core needs, such as mathematics and language. More people have access to higher-level educational opportunities as well, which creates more chances at long-term growth.

I don't get what's "wrong" with Imperialism (part 3)

More examples:

1. Civilization
One of the most common positive effects of imperialism is civilization. Under-developed and developing countries gain access to new technologies. Since their people live in mostly smaller nations, the bigger nations provide them with technologies and civilization. Part of it includes reforming the educational systems and building social amenities. Let us not forget that the record says civilization started in Egypt (Africa). It is safe to say that civilization in most African countries was through the help of imperialism.

2. Improved Healthcare service
Not until imperialism came to some smaller nations did they never have access to proper healthcare services. The colonial masters built hospitals and brought science manufactured drugs not only for themselves but also for the countries they ruled.

Many of the older generations in some parts of Africa only knew about concoctions for healing. An obvious example of the impact on healthcare services is the eradication process of malaria in Africa. Malaria at one point in the 80s and 90s was a deadly disease that killed many. Moreover, this became a thing of the past when the bigger countries stepped in.

3. Improved Agricultural production
Imperialism brought about improved agricultural production through advanced fertilization and farming methods. On-farm activities improved through their help and post-harvest processing became more effective. By this, many ideas were harnessed. Crops become viable and healthy for instant consumption or further processing.

4. Basic Social Amenities
Many smaller nations didn’t know about electricity until the colonial masters came. The representatives of the bigger nation had to build roads, railways, street lights, drainage systems, etc. since they will be living there for some time.

5. Improved environment and state of living
The presence of the colonial masters helps to improve the state of living. Dressings were improved, and proper human and environmental sanitation improved.

6. Improved Defense and proper law enforcement
The colonial masters helped to build borders and strengthen their space from other countries. Constitutions were made to enforce the law among the people. The law enforcement agencies such as the police and the armies were reformed. It also helped smaller countries who have no idea how to make constitutions or how to govern a country.

I don't get what's "wrong" with Imperialism (part 4, finale part)

Also, imperialism can spread literacy and establish health care in areas where their were none; Imperialism causes infrastructure (roads; bridges; ports) to be built in a country that didn't have that infrastructure- when the revolution comes, the ruled now have control over those schools, hospitals, roads/bridges, etc.) Now, that's good, isn't it?

1. Opportunity to get really rich
2. Glorious awesomeness
3. Better healthcare and technologies
4. Did I mention getting really, really rich?

And when you live in a system where people are rich, that means you'll never again lack housing, heating, food, clothes, school education, employment and healhcare. In an Imperialistic society, there would be very little to no poverty, homelessness, unemployment, illiteracy, etc. Now that's what I call improving people's lives, especially the lives of people who have been disadvantaged for so long, if I do say so myself.

Also, this book seem like it's really worth reading (I can't wait to get my hands on the copy I put on hold at the public library, it's about the benefits of Imperlism and how empires united the world):

https://www.shortform.com/blog/benefits-of-imperialism/

But sadly, some idiots continue to think that "Imperialism" is a bad word and that "Imperialism is the end of the world". It might be because they're scared of losing their privileges and see the lives of disadvantaged people improved for once (litteracy, education, employment, housing, food, healthcare, better technologies, more advance science, military protection of civilians, etc).

Maybe the smartasses should read it, then maybe they'd learn something for a change. Some people are so cowardly that they they won't read or hear any view that challenge their position because that makes them feel uncomfortable. Well guess what? If your political and/or religious belief system is so fragile that all it takes for it to fall apart is maybe read or listen to a new perspective or a differing viewpoint or a different view/opinion, maybe your belief system deserved to die because it was never built on solid fondations. A house must be built on solid foundation if it is to last. The same principle applies to man, otherwise he too will sink back into the soft ground and becomes swallowed up by the world of illusion. Some of us are disillusioned and we are open to other views and perspectives because we are sick and tired of echo chambers. People need to broaden their minds and listen to a variety of political and/or religious beliefs instead of locking themselves up in an echo chamber where anyone who questions or challenge the status quo is treated like a leper, demonized, bullied and outcasted. Also having discussions about a variety of viewpoints, perspectives and opinions keep the conversation going instead of shutting down conversation and dialogue with petty insults, mean, nasty remarks and mockery like some radical-Right cowards have done to me on this forum (especially when I adressed things like LGBT rights and reproductive freedom for women).

One can be a citizen of a republic or a subject of an empire.

Some folks just prefer to be citizens.

I gave it a good skim.

The arguments are facile, reductionist, and historically revisionist. You have so many falsehoods and half-truths and quarter-truths ad contradictions packed in there that a proper take down would require several posts - and, frankly, you appear to be operating at an intellectual level which makes dubious the prospect that you would benefit from an honest critique of your ideas.

I think pointing and laughing is the more appropriate response - no offense. Image

You need to find a university to teach the politics of Star Wars. Lucas thought it was ridiculous but people really get into that stuff. I have a friend who is a teacher who says she teaches her kids "Shakespeare or Star Wars?" to get them interested in the bard. I like the Jedi by the way.

Just to add, Remember the original was released in the 1970s when anti fascism was peaking on the American left and broader political spectrum in America. Alderaan was actually more of a allusion to the horrors of the Holocaust and the ethos of the Nazis in general were represented in the Empire. That has tended to be twisted lately as the Empire being the representative force of the American Empire and that is probably why you agree with the Empire as being the "good" guy in the story. Personally, I like the original message of Episode IV where the Republic is the ultimate good along with Democracy.
Nothing is easier than defending the status quo.
