You see, our @Beekeeper  has given us the answer.  He has demonstrated that Americans have much less trust in media than they did 50 years ago.  Americans however, have increasingly paid for radio and TV.  

The American feels proud of his independence and smarts.  Meanwhile, we continue to supersize him with a diet he hates, but now pays for.
