Revealed: Brutally violent Venezuelan ‘Tren de Aragua’ gang is using migrant wave to launch NYC phone robbery spree

It’s a crime wave that has raised fears across the city: robbers on mopeds snatching people’s phones from their hands and speeding off.In one especially brazen attack, moped-riding bandits dragged a 62-year-old woman down a Brooklyn street in December.

 After the phones are stolen, the victims’ bank accounts are drained of cash, with fraudulent transactions in both the US and South America, and the phones themselves are sent to Colombia to be wiped, reprogrammed and sold.

 Now The Post can disclose that the pattern of robberies is being linked by law enforcement to a brutal Venezuelan gang that is sending its members to New York as part of the migrant wave — and using its sprawling criminal empire to launder the proceeds of the crimes.

 Until recent weeks, police had been concerned about rises in thefts and robberies in the city — such as a spate of pickpocketing on the subway system and around the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree — being linked to low-level, unorganized criminals who were among the estimated 170,000 migrants who have arrived in the city since the start of 2023.

But sources tell The Post that the brutal Venezuelan “Tren de Aragua” gang has moved into New York by having its members cross the southern border and claim asylum, and is likely behind many of the moped robberies.

And remember, Biden extended Temporary Protected Status to those crossing from Venezuela:

The Biden administration announced Wednesday the expansion of a form of humanitarian relief to Venezuelans already in the United States, making hundreds of thousands more people eligible for work permits and likely appeasing calls by New York City officials to provide work authorization to certain migrants.The arrival of migrants, many of whom are Venezuelan, to New York City has driven a wedge in President Joe Biden’s relationship with New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who has been a fierce critic of the administration’s handling of the migrant crisis.

 Adams repeatedly urged the White House to expedite work authorizations for migrants arriving to the city, so they could get jobs and wouldn’t be forced to rely on the social safety net.

 Immigrant advocates argued that a form of humanitarian relief, known as Temporary Protected Status, was perhaps the easiest form of action – without congressional action – the administration could take to satisfy the ask from New York. The Homeland Security secretary has discretion to designate a country for TPS.

Somewhere in Schumer's 700 page Immigration Bill is a clause giving away free Mopeds so the poor things can get back for their status hearings.

A 15-year-old illegal immigrant was arrested Friday for several violent charges, including shooting at a police officer, in New York City.

 The suspect, Jesus Alejandro Rivas Figueroa, opened fire inside a Times Square sporting-goods store Thursday night after being confronted by a security guard for attempted shoplifting. The teenager sprayed bullets in the direction of the guard before he fled into the street, according to police. One of the bullets grazed the leg of a tourist at the store, a 38-year-old woman from Brazil, who faced non-life-threatening injuries.
 New York Police Department officials said the teenager was from Venezuela and had been staying at a Manhattan migrant shelter, after arriving in New York last fall. Rivas Figueroa is one of the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who have come to the city during the Biden administration, having crossed into the United States at the southern border.
 The suspect was taken into custody in Yonkers, officials said. He is also considered a suspect in an armed robbery in the Bronx and a second shooting in Times Square last month, said John Chell, the NYPD’s chief of patrol.

If he was taken by helicopter and shown on TV camera, wrapped in whatever his national  flag happens to be and then  dumped head first into the Atlantic Ocean from about 500 feet... we would see a dramatic decrease in this sort of criminal activity.

 One of the migrants allegedly involved in a mob assault on a pair of cops in Times Square has been arrested again — this time for participating in a coordinated robbery of a Macy’s store in Queens.

 “It’s to a point that they had to post policies on use of force like if we were in a combat zone,” one National Guard source told The Post on Wednesday.According to the NYPD alert, “Tren de Aragua” — Spanish for Aragua Train, a shout-out to the gang’s origins as a railroad labor union in Aragua, Venezuela — is growing in numbers in the Big Apple and now firmly on the police radar.
