I have the same perception of Reagan as I do Trump. They are dishonest about evolving, but they do/did represent people equally here regardless what they(people) believed true.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of hypothetical life, nobody gets a choice about ancestral time evolving here now. it is an eternal adapt or become extinct for each reproduction native to the atmosphere they are alive in universally here now. Every location has the same problem with living beyond their native location, location, location. Time, species, generation gap, gender since conceived.

first you must be aware of who reagan was. he was an actor who was what he was paid to be. later became the governor of california. then bankrupt california. (after jerry brown developed silicon valley.) he then was paid to be president. an obedient president. great acting job. acted the script very well. if you liked the script. thank the script drafters, not reagan.

he was an ancestral reproduction before choosing to becoming a social identity and then an actor before running for the office of President after serving Governor of California.

Donald Trump's "world view" is America First.  He has adopted this world view because many presidents before him repeatedly marginalized America's needs in favor of a "world policy".  Such a world-first policy has caused the US to go into a debt death-spiral.  It has caused us to neglect our borders.  Biden and Obama's world-first policy has lead to our country taking on immigrants who in no way benefit our Nation, but suck resources out of it.

Trump has also seen where globalist policies have decimated U.S. industry in favor of countries like China, India and Mexico.  Trump's vision for America is a consequence of what Obama, Biden, Clinton and even Bush II to a lesser extent has done to it.

We can no longer be the world's leader until we correct our own internal problems; problems caused and created by nearly every president and congress since Regan.  I would like to think that a young Ronald Regan would see much of the corruption and sickness that brought our nation to the point where Trump's "America First" policies are the right ones for this nation in 2024.  I think young Ronnie would be of the same mindset as Donald Trump. He was a practical man with a dream of a better, stronger America.  While personalities may differ, I believe their loyalties and vision for American in 2024 and beyond would be quite similar.

Well I would walk back my comments and probably agree that "America First{" is somewhat of a philosophy in and of itself. As is nationalism. It doesn't seem to really take hold in my mind to be pleasing to Reagan given he wasn't an isolationist and wanted a role for America in global affairs. Just my opinion though. And all the gay garbage is still without any real need as a political issue and I still think it is a tactic.

I think that's a polluted worldview. Try to think a little harder than propaganda. I think some of that stuff is repulsive too. Yet, it isn't going to make me lose sight of other issues. I try to think a little deeper.

Ronald Regan governed California in the late 60's-70's and the U.S. in the early '80's.  It is 2024 - way into the future from the perspective of an aging president from 1980.  Things have changed drastically since then.
  • out-of-control illegal alien invasion
  • national debt spiral
  • homeless people being neglected in favor of illegal aliens
  • corruption in the DOJ and 90% of the U.S. Bureaucracies.
  • Wars we cannot afford
  • Taxes too high
  • Inflation too high
  • young people cannot afford homes or places to live
  • wage pressure to the downside with all of the illegal aliens
I believe Regan would be Trump, just without the foul mouth, in 2025.  You are attempting to evaluate Regan in a time-vacuum rather than through a more modern lens made in 2024.

The "gay garbage" as you call it is a real thing, especially to women and girls.  A large segment of our population have worked real hard to provide athletic opportunities to girls. Not to mention the life-long work and hard training girls put into their own athletic endeavors.  These opportunities are being stolen from them.  Their hopes.  Their dreams.  Their athletic ambitions. Scholarships. Even their physical fitness is being stolen by a bunch of mentally ill boys/men and the sickos that force this nonsense upon girls.  Transgender athletes is the new "rape".  And, many of those around us not only allowing this to happen, but cheering it on.  This needs to be abruptly and forcefully stopped.

What decade in the previous 5 did amnesty come to 10-20 million illegals prior to 2000 with a promise of better border security from that time forward?

Ted Kennedy brokered the deal. Why isn't that being discussed. pattern of social behavior was set back then and being repeated now.

I think you are probably right about the different world we live in. The primary difference in my opinion is that Reagan wasn't an isolationist. That seems to be balked at by Republicans ever since Trump took over the Republican Party. The movement of putting your nation first is something I tend to shy away from as a globalist. Something like shutting down the border instead of managing "illegal" (and yes the term still is illegal) immigration would be favored policy by Reagan in my opinion . I also think there are plenty of trade situations that can be win-win in the global sphere but again, that tends to be something that today's Republicans also deny as reasonable policy.

Golly, population evolving into separate ancestors each generation gap now are never same numbers each generation gap left again.

Regan was not an isolationist, but at a time when it was best for the United States to expend resources in leading the world away from Communist world domination.  That's where things were going in the '60's, '70's and early '80's.  I get what Regan did at the time he was governing.

To some degree it has.  But, times have changed and we Americans have serious problems at home.  We have been a bitterly divided nation for over 20 years now, and we tend to get more divided under the authoritarian rule of race-baiting Democrats.  Yes, its such a big problem right now that we cannot afford to be the world's "leader" right now. Tell England, Germany or France its time for them to step up while we are getting our own house in order. The UK had to do this with Brexit.

I get it.  You are looking at Regan, as Regan governed a different nation in the 1980's.  However, that is not the nation we have today.
  • NASA's space shuttle program and Apollo moon program have long been dead.  Obama made NASA an outreach agency to Muslims.  Space research has been privatized and many other nations are in the game.
  • Nuclear fission/fusion technology is no longer limited to Russia and the U.S.
  • Illegal aliens invading our nation is out-of-control
  • Homelessness is out-of-control
  • The drug epidemic is 10-fold worse that it was under Regan.  In fact, nations are weaponizing America's drug addictions against us.
  • NATO is not living up to its obligations - if the obligations are "too rich" then the US needs to be relieved of its burden as well.
  • The US is doling out way too much tax-payer money to support foreign welfare.
  • We are beyond "broke" as a Federal Entity.
  • The Dollar continues to lose value, while Americans rack up more and more debt.
  • We are paying too much in taxes.
  • We have a huge, worthless, bloated-beyond-comprehension amalgamation of bureaucratic agencies.
  • Corruption has caused one party to weaponize the entire Justice Department and Internal Revenue Service against another party to try to retain power.
  • We have found out that our Government has been conducting autonomous, secret programs without supervision concerning non-human invaders of our planet.  Yes, our government has been lying to us and enslaving us to support God-knows how many "secret programs".
Buddy-Boy, we have real problems here at home.  Problems that really require a President (and Congress) to put America first, at least for a substantial period of time.  It is time to stop thinking that it is best to ALWAYS be the world leader at whatever the cost.  A one-solution-fits all is only seldomly the right solution, and global domination over America first is not the right solution going into 2025.

I am pretty good at naming specifics to support what I am saying.

As for NATO being a point of contention between Trump and Regan, Trump was only 35 when Regan became president. In the 1980's Trump was struggling with huge losses - NATO was the last thing on the man's mind. There was no "contention" between Regan and Trump concerning NATO.  The two men were at entirely different places in their lives when Regan was thinking about NATO.

Do you think NATO nations should be able to reap the benefits of membership [our protection] without paying their fair share...?

If you do, then you are a weak minded idiot.

Would you volunteer your son to go  defend a NATO nation that refuses to pay their fair share...?

If you would, then you are a weak minded idiot.

^^^^ This is why we should all be using the "Peanut Gallery" function when we start serious threads. Gibberish and ad hominem attacks by recurrent worthless members - some of them just can't help themselves. But, it ends up degrading a decent topic.  And, by grace of Cannonpointer, we have all been given a tool to deal with this.
