first you must be aware of who reagan was. he was an actor who was what he was paid to be. later became the governor of california. then bankrupt california. (after jerry brown developed silicon valley.) he then was paid to be president. an obedient president. great acting job. acted the script very well. if you liked the script. thank the script drafters, not reagan.

I remember a lot of people not taking him seriously because he was an actor. I was young then

Well I can attest to the fact that English is the world's most spoken language followed by Mandurian. Reagan probably played a role in that by ending the Cold War. The Trump Republican party has given up on the "shining city on the hill" that was united under Reagan. Instead Trump plays more to appeal to voters than to actually accomplish anything. Remember when Kennedy was asked "Why are you running for President?" and he said "I don't know"? Trump kinda seems to be on that plane given he has no real worldview or agenda accept the border and culture wars. I could go on but I think its about appeal more than substance with the MAGA crowd.

russia objected to the genocide in gaza long ago. the arms given to israel recently are because israel feels russia will attack.

Those are two good questions.  In response, I would say that the U.S. should pay no more than what Germany pays of its defense budget.  If Germany wants to short-dick us, we can do the same.

As for the second question - I wouldn't volunteer my child for anything.  He's got a mind and he can do what he wants.  But, if he's hell bent on joining the Military, I'd encourage him to join the Air Force as an officer and fly planes. The skills transfer fairly well to commercial pilots and jobs with airlines.

In theory...if we firmly believe in NATO...then that means we believe in having our children contribute to not only OUR DEFENSE but the defense of our allies.

Ok, I agree with that.  I believe in having allies, and NATO is fine with me conceptually.  But, I don't believe in giving cheap-*** nations a pass.  Either they pay, or we reduce what we pay.   Simple as that.

There's kinda a large land mass between Russia and Israel and I don't think Russia has any military bases in the Mediterranean. Russia is also waging a war of attrition in Ukraine right now too and has been found guilty of war crimes.

biden is a zionist. period. russia already said long ago that israel should not bomb gaza. israel bombs civilians daily. so what does america do? give israel more weapons. russia has jets last I checked. why  does  israel need billions of dollars more to fight hamas? they don't. they want the weapons to fight russia if russia gets involved and it just might, russia would sign a peace treaty but biden and ukraine refuse, and america just gives ukraine more weapons. dc does not have a lick of sense any more or does the entire world being at war is what they want. now they also want to give weapons to taiwan to  fight china. and when that happens taiwan will end up like ukraine.

Aircraft can only fly so far. That's also why Israel can't bomb Iran.

Maineman, fair is fair.  If the European Nations fail to fund NATO, then we reduce our funding accordingly.  Why would even Democrats want Europe to abuse our hard earned American tax dollars like that?

Well I would walk back my comments and probably agree that "America First{" is somewhat of a philosophy in and of itself. As is nationalism. It doesn't seem to really take hold in my mind to be pleasing to Reagan given he wasn't an isolationist and wanted a role for America in global affairs. Just my opinion though. And all the gay garbage is still without any real need as a political issue and I still think it is a tactic.

No, Reagan wanted to rule the world and that is not the same as America having a role in global affairs .....

Coming from a converted Reaganite a few years back, I don't really buy into the Trump philosophy. To me it seems to be no philosophy or political worldview. Just the whims of Donald Trump and his populist appeal. I guess it's not all that bad to appeal directly but it creates problems too for MAGA Republicans and their worldview. Anyone want to comment?
