In Oct 2022 I had to drive to FL for a cruise.  A hurricane had just blown thru the east cost.  I think it was Ian.  I drove down the next day and I had brought my old Rand McNally Truck Map from when I used to drive.  My daughter in law asked what was I gonna do with it.  I explained that while a GPS is great it doesn't always pick the best routes if roads are closed.  She didn't know how to read it.

Not even close to a GPS.  GPS stands for Global Positioning System.  The object in the picture absolutely cannot tell you where you are. It can only tell you the direction you are traveling in relation to magnetic north or the direction you want to travel in relation to magnetic north.  And those are only true if you are using it properly.

I understand what creates their unreliable also. Plus travel a couple of degrees off and one can end up miles away from their intended destination. What about getting into natural electromagnetic fields?

personal compass to geographical areas doesn't read geometrical time adapting as displaced either.

This is my event horizon/compass for time displaced uniquely me.

It refers to north side is red, dawn side is yellow, daylight is green side, orange is dusk, blue is night, pink is south. the 6 points perpendicularly from center are vertically my parents the 4 horizontal corners are my grandparents and center mass is my two sibling and I since conceived.

Now those 8 corners of triangulating my positions are the time my 8 great grandparents lived before my grandparents came out of nothing into someone being my 4 previous generation people specific donors of my DNA.

Now you wish to continue defending reasonable doubt with half truths divided into intellectual ideas life wasn't self evident since dawn of civilization corrupting every great great grandchild to obey previous 4 generation gaps or else.

I know what triangulation is and I agree that if you add the correct map, it can help you determine where you are.  I added "correct" before map because if I suddenly find myself lost in Montana and stumble across a compass and a map of Australia, I will still not know where I am. Besides, triangulation is really only accurate enough to give you an estimated position.  It will be off unless you are lucky enough to exactly nail the bearing directions on the fixed objects or they are close enough that a small variance between the bearing you take and the true bearing is not material.  Additionally, the further away the two fixed obects are away from perpendicular to each other impacts the accuracy.

You can call that anal if you choose.

I have always been good with land nav.  Whether on the ground or in the air.  The Hueys I flew on in did not have navigation systems.  They had a compass and we used a map.

The last time I used a compass was in the early 2000's when I was lining my direct TV dish up to the satellite. Lol

Back in the day, I was really good at it myself.  While I was never an expert, I did teach basic orienteering. It's been a couple of decades since I did much orienteering so I would hate for someone to rely on my skills today.  It would probably take a while to get all that info recalled completely.  You know, the "use it or lose it" concept.
