Liberal Forum

I have always advocated for tax payed college tuition, but with stipulations. Only degrees that are useful and only for serious students. 

Useful degrees include: 

• STEM related
• Professional service related: Lawyers, doctors, teachers, etc...

Non-useful degrees: 

• Most liberal arts degrees. Not all, but most
• Degrees that have no business being degrees in the first place such as: philosophy, mythology, 19th century Russian studies (LOL), etc..

Serious students
This is tricky, because you don't really know who is serious until they get in and prove it. A lot of people can put on a good act, but then when they perform, you see that they were full of ****. Kind of like people who lie on their resume or are good at job interviews, but suck in real life. However, there should be some kind of rigorous process to weed out the ****. 

An educated populace has no drawbacks. Seriously, what negatives go along with having most of society being able to to think? That would scare the **** out of our leaders, but how would that negatively impact society? I can't think of one drawback to living in an educated populace. Not one.

I understand. The only issue I have with this particular issue is that it is more expensive to live among stupid morons who can't think, than it is to live around people who can think. Most prisons are full of people who make stupid decisions, not because they are poor, but because they are **** morons. Prisons cost a lot of money for us to upkeep. This is just one example.

There is no such thing as free.  Somewhere, someone is covering the cost.

It also isn't 'free' for you to try to survive in a society where there is a critical shortage of competent people.

There is no school program that can make morons intelligent, though.

What about tech schools?

computer, electrical, carpentry, plumbing etc…

Yes, I should change the title. I will do that. However, keep in mind that it's much more costly for America to not have free college tuition than it would be if we educated our civilians.
