Do you ask this same question after we spend our taxes to Ukraine, Israel, foreign aid, and any useless war we get ourselves into?

In general, I oppose foreign aid but understand there are circumstances that make if necessary.  If you can't discern a difference between foreign aid that benefits the entire nation (and may...not always...but may) be in the interest of our own national security and paying to educate some schmuck too lazy to pay their own way, then further discussion is useless.

Well if you want to solve the problem of incarceration rates this all becomes very relevant. Close to 100% of the people in prison for violent crime were genetically at risk for it. The correlation between education and crime is simply epiphenomenological. People with low impulse control will also lack the patience to educate themselves. No amount of money thrown at your education system could possibly tweak that to any meaningful degree.

I don't believe the number is that high. In fact, there are many education systems in prison now who offer courses to get their GED and some community colleges offer core requirements for them while they are still in prison. When they get out, the college will accept them to finish off a trade or certification program. It's quite successful. Vegas does that here for the jails. They have a great success rate.
