Education is my line of work. When I see k-12 say the pledge, I often ask what the point is. They are just memorizing words and then reciting them. I can see in their faces that they have no clue what the hell they are even saying. It's just something they are supposed to do. Likewise, I have known people who wont say it. However, they have no clue as to why they wont. It's just to get attention, to be different.
As for me, I say it because I still believe their is hope that America can change for the better. We have come a long way since 1776. We are still an infant compared to most of the world. Yet look how far we have come with respect to human rights, technology, medicine, and education. Our evils run deep. Really deep. They still do. However, I still believe that we have the ability to change for the better. America changes rapidly. America is not the same country as it was in 2010, and in 2010 it was not the same in 2000, and in 1990..etc...How many other countries can conform to change that easily?
So why do you say it or choose not to say it?
