He's a franchisee. The only thing he "owns" related to Chick-fil-a is the rights to one or more franchise locations. I am fairly sure Chick-fil-a is one of the companies that owns the building and equipment.

My two local Chick Fil A restaurants are owned and operated by a lesbian lady and the one closest to my house has two gay guys on the management team even.
