We were fortunate enough to be in the direct path of the 2017 event and it was wild to see.

It went as dark as midnight in the middle of the day for about 7 minutes I believe it was. The dusk and dawn moments were the weirdest. When the sun stared winking out, the birds and crickets started going nuts.
It's worth the effort to travel a bit to get in the path of you've never experienced one.
I did in Lebanon TN in 2017, which was considered a dead center path location of the track.DeezerShoove » 14 Mar 2024, 10:14 am » wrote: ↑ I beg to differ. I've been in the direct center of the moon's shadow (more than once).

I was as dark as a moonless night where we were, and the sky was full of stars and everything.
Just a few miles south, it wasn't the same, from what people said.
I believe you about measuring the light.DeezerShoove » 14 Mar 2024, 10:27 am » wrote: ↑ It probably seemed that dark because your eyes hadn't adjusted fully.
Totality doesn't last very long at all.
Technically absolute dead center of the umbra (moon's shadow) races right over you.
You're not even at the absolute darkest for more than a few seconds.
Light meter measurements would prove me right on this.
Not even close. What actually happens, that I've never seen mentioned, is that everything take on an unusual coloration for some reason.DeezerShoove » 14 Mar 2024, 10:14 am » wrote: ↑ I beg to differ. I've been in the direct center of the moon's shadow (more than once).

Because it is a rarity, that a whole lot of people go their entire lives without ever seeing.31stArrival » 14 Mar 2024, 10:56 am » wrote: ↑ Why do people make such a big deal out of natural timing between perpetual balancing objects overlapping in such events that happen exactly as they balance into events so far.
But most seeing it call it an act of God or higher intellect than their mind can translate socially.Redheaded Stranger » 14 Mar 2024, 11:27 am » wrote: ↑ Because it is a rarity, that a whole lot of people go their entire lives without ever seeing.
I was in my 50s before I experienced one, and there is a good chance it will be the only time in my life I will experience.
I consider myself lucky.
