WHAT difference does THAT make you ask?  Well, U3 only counts unemployed people looking for work... while U6 counts the "part time" workers, workers with multiple jobs, but net a full time job !!

March 2024 statistics show a 3.8% U3 unemployment rate, while there were 7.3% U6 Part time, but not full time, workers !!  That is almost DOUBLE the actual U3 unemployment rate !

THAT is NOT a reason to celebrate !!  Is it an intentional deception?  I don't know... BUT, the narkets seem to be trying to parlay it into "the GREATEST economy ever"... WHICH it is NOT !

Given that both numbers are generated from the same data sets, and the U6 is "additive", why would U3 suddenly be less reliable.....again?

It has been a KNOWN FLAW in the unemployment statistic for YEARS... I.e. HOW can it be "as good" for a worker to live on HALF a paycheck, than a full paycheck... and yet, the two are treated equally?  ...add to that the DROVES of Government jobs (authorized by recent (2022) TRILLION $$$ budgets)... and you have a monthly unemployment statistic that SEEMS to be keeping the stock market afloat (while other statistics look weak)... and you have what many believe is "Government Manipulation" of the numbers...

Hard to see how even THAT will be able to be maintained until after the 2024 election... It COULD be however... But NOT indefinitely.  I'm thinking that the Democrats are ONLY worried until the 2024 election... Then, they will either work on passing ANOTHER multi-Trillion $$, Debt BUSTING,  budget... or, let Donald Trump deal with the MESS that THEY have caused !

U3 measures people who "Have a job" (part time or other) !

U6 measures people who have Full Time Jobs !

SO...

U3 was 3.8% in March 2024 (i.e. 3.8% of workers DID NOT have ANY Job)..

U6 was 7.2% in March 2024 (i.e. 7.2% of workers were UNDER employed... Were either unemployed or DID NOT have a full time job! )..

The difference?  ...Is a 20 hour/week job enough to raise a family? (I doubt it !),  ...are 3 jobs totaling 40 hours COUNTED as 3 "U3" jobs? (they COULD be !), and DO YOU THINK Democrats are above manipulating employment numbers to BENEFIT Democrat candidates?  (I don't !)...

Beyond that, they BURY the news that we LOST 6,000 FULL-TIME JOBS last month.
As well as the reality that the 71,000 new GOVERNMENT workers they added are a DETRIMENT to the economy, not a positive.
Or that another 88,000 of those new jobs came from the education and healthcare categories, as millions of illegals caused the need to hire more teachers and healthcare workers TO HELP THE MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS WHO ARE GETTING THOSE THINGS FOR FREE!
