Since there was never a chance he would be convicted, I don't mind the precedent of a simple dismissal without a trial. It will come in handy at some point in the future for republicans.

Harry Reid's use of the "Nuclear Option" in 2013 comes to mind.

Reid unwittingly laid the groundwork for getting Roe overturned almost a decade later in that move.
