"Underpowered" relative to what...modern Lycra?

It is a weapon designed for combat...it is why it is favored by many who have never seen combat and those who want to kill many children at one time.

The AR-15 platform is popular with the public because a wide variety of models and accessories are available from cheap to very expensive depending on what you want, and the ammunition is cheap and readily available.

It's never really been that great of a combat rifle.

A 12 gauge semi auto shotgun is just as effective or more so at killing large swaths of innocents than an AR, and I keep seeing a picture of you posing with one of those on this forum.

60 years ago. the M 16 was designed for combat.  Not the Colt AR 15 sportier, idiot.

Since the round is not working as advertised the military is now going with this:The XM7, previously known as the XM5, is the U.S. Army variant of the SIG MCX Spear, a 6.8×51mm (.277 in), gas-operated, magazine-fed, assault rifle[1] designed by SIG Sauer for the Next Generation Squad Weapon Program in 2022 to replace the M4 carbine. The XM7 features a free-floating reinforced M-LOK handguard for direct accessory attachment to slotted hole mounting points.

223 Wylde is a beast. 3 shots to explode an average size male.
Used 223 Wylde in Uvalde. Blew the kids all over the walls and ceilings.

PS. @R. Suave   we are not talking about the different designs of the  Colt Sporter and the M 16.  We are discussing the army newly designed rifle as opposed to its civilian design which came out first.
