Awesome Bill from Dawsonville was the reason for restrictor plates.

He clocked the fastest lap ever at Talladega with an average of almost 213mph in 1987, and in '88 they introduced restrictor plates.

Some people estimated he was pushing 230 on the backstretch. That's insane.

'85 though the late 90's was the best of NASCAR in my opinion.

I've been to Talladega a half a dozen times over the years. It is an awesome experience. The infield got so wild they had to move the free campground across the street and make the infield a high dollar ticket because too much debauchery was ending up on National television.

I saw Earnhardt Sr's last win there in 2000 when he made up like 15 spots in the last few laps. They were three and even four wide all day long. Earnhardt had doughnuts all down the right side at the end.The crowd was insane!

Yes sir.  I was in the infield for the spring 2016 race in the primo RV area off of turn 4.  One of the best events I have gone to.
