Holy ****.  Rush Limbaugh did more to ruin conservatism than any other single person.
He turned conservatism into BLOODLUST and HATE.  These people have ruined souls.

I didn't listen to much of his stuff.
Also, I didn't get that sense of bloodlust and hate from what little I did hear.

He was an entertainer and admitted that more than once.

He did a listener hour (or show which was 3 hours) once that I caught.
It was a response to critics saying he never let the callers talk much.
"If it was Call-In Friday, why not let callers say more?" was the big issue.

He let callers have their way and the result was LOTS of stupidity and LOTS of dead air.
Awkward, funny, boring, and telling.
People let him "entertain" after that without so many complaints.

I was glad to have caught that one. My schedule never allowed me any time to catch his show.
Probably mostly repeated **** every day after all.

Like I've said, I really don't admire/revere/worship much of anything. It's nice.

I think if you split the two camps with a partition, that partition would be very thick and fuzzy. There isn't a clear demarcation and some issues overlap.
Like liberals owning guns and conservatives for abortion (among others).

I read an article many years ago that summed up many liberals that may explain your view somewhat. It was much longer than I can recount but it was something like this:
Liberals and/or people claiming to be so, tend to take the "easy way out".
After all, who wouldn't be for clean air and water?
Who isn't for individual rights?
The woman should chose whether or not that's her baby or an inconvenience.
Who wants the state to accidentally execute an innocent person?
Of course nobody wants others beaten to death for being gay.
Certainly gun violence against innocent citizens is bad.

You get the idea.
People who can't or won't think deeper than those simple phrases stay liberal so they can act like "good people" without feeling the need to explain. They take the easy way.
Doesn't mean they're more honest or better. Some are plain lazy or simple.

Something like that.

one of my favorites was when a caller said “I can’t stand listening to you … and Rush said “let me help you” and he hung up on him   

early on, Rush had a liberal black lady call in from time to time that was always a great call

he reminded his listeners all the time that “he was an entertainer” in the beginning 

but when the big bucks started rolling in, he became a parody of himself 

he became head right winger real quick 

which is sad because he stopped being funny

his parody songs were funny as hell, and his show was entertaining 

but then he took it too serious 

and became a big part of the problem 

But he let me ramble for about 6 minutes not long before he died on “ open line Friday” 

so I was grateful for that

I think I caught the "funny period" and missed almost all of the "serious head right winger".

But even when he was in that period he was on Family Guy more than once.
He let himself get engaged without resentful backbiting.
Credit where credit is due on that score.

We had a couple talk show hosts in the Detroit area that I got on a couple times.
Made one cut me off, but I caught him off guard and the seven second delay switch wasn't quite quick enough.
A couple of mediocre, semi-sincere compliments relaxed his grip and the fat head let my sarcasm through.
The guy was an annoying asshole. Deserved it.
A couple of my work mates heard it and were rolling on the floor.
