Anyone that thinks they actually own their home because the mortgage has been paid off only has to miss a tax payment on it for the Government to swoop in a seize it... and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

Funding for streets, schools, libraries, hospitals, municipal venues of all sorts.
Is there a better system that funds a community's common needs?

As for funding public infrastructure and utilities, there are many other methods that draw from the end users of said services directly other than property taxes that are more than justified. Tax on gasoline and automobiles to pay for the roads, sales taxes, utility taxes, etc...
The city, state, and Federal Governments all collect plenty to fund those things... they just squander and steal so much that they always want more.
We don't have a funding problem, we have a spending and management problem... and it's been that way for decades.
