I believe that poll numbers and National sentiment towards to verdict over the weeks leading up to July 11 will play a huge role in Merchan's "decision".

If Trump is majorly whipping Biden's *** in the polls and is raising money hand over fist, then Merchan may just send him to jail to call the RNC's hand before the nomination... but if the verdict looks like it mortally wounded Trump and his numbers start plummeting, then Merchan may will be more inclined to let him off the hook.

This is a political persecution after all... and the end game is to keep Trump not only out of the WH, but off the ballot if possible.

According to the panel at Lawfare, the guidelines call for anything from probation to 1.3 to 5 yrs on a chain gang...

I don't consider 1.3 "years" in the sense of the option afforded.

34-0 in 9 hrs suggests the jury is looking for jail time.

I'd be perfectly happy with probation and a 250 million fine....

Grifty will have to schlepp to regular encounters with a probation officer...and his next felony verdict will GUARANTEE the slammer.

The fine for a class E non-violent felony (per one of the talking heads on CNN) is $5,000 per offense. That would be a total of $170,000.

According to a former prosecutor on NBC yesterday, he thinks one of the appeal grounds will be the law itself.  In his opinion, not having to declare the "other crime"...and in this case, the prosecution didn't mention other possible crimes until right before they rested...probably means the law is unconstitutionally vague and violates the due process clause. He also thinks the denial of a change of venue has a decent chance of success and Mechan refusing to recuse himself. One of the quirks in NY law is a judge should recuse himself if a close family member creates a conflict of interest...and his daughter working for a DNC group does that.
