I didn't read the article but I am sure he is more concerned with his election as a down ballot candidate.

And now, they're trying to get away with offloading biden, replacing him with someone who did not have to face the scrutiny and oppo research of a primary, and gets to come out of the gates fresh, swinging for the fences entirely unvetted.
The problem they face is not the republican party, which is far too stupid even to GRASP the game, much less win it; but rather, the problem they face is that their base wants a *** woman and believes it's cameltoe's turn.
If she doesn't step aside convincingly - as in, I do not want this office, I throw my support behind the great old white male hope, - then the democ rat party is gonna be **** on the first tuesday in November.
