But we need them in general to keep the population up. Lots of countries are in trouble that way.

The American taxpayer ? .....whom did not create this massive debt ....
who is obligated ?..realistically.....and who loses the most if the debt can no longer be serviced ....
And as for your example of contraction it's a poor one .....N. Korea is a true dictatorship which spends all of it's wealth serving that dictatorship and it's military.
