Especially when considering (West) GDP vs (World) PPP.
The graph is not GDP - it is PPP.  Interesting.

The "new world" is merely the future. I don't find any remarkable events in all of this.
As you mentioned "trajectory", that has been on course for a long time and the installment of certain dubious people in certain positions of influence hasn't instilled confidence in me at all.
Governments, business poobahs, media brainiacs, etc have not been in touch with The Common Man in a long time.
They seek some consolidation of power/wealth/elitism, an untouchable status away from the filthy masses.
The methods/technology may differ over time but has that part of human nature really changed?

Moral of my rant:
People can be bought... plain and simple. That's how big shots get big and stay there.
