DOJ moving to wind down Trump criminal cases before he takes office

The step complies with long-standing Justice Department policy that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted, two people familiar with the matter told NBC News.
Now that Trump will become president again, DOJ officials see no room to pursue either criminal case against him — and no point in continuing to litigate them in the weeks before he takes office, the people said.

 “Sensible, inevitable and unfortunate,” said former federal prosecutor Chuck Rosenberg, an NBC News contributor.

The real reason is that they believe that Trump will release the Epstein list and there are probably many high-ranking officials in the DOJ on that list. This is there way of hoping that Trump will keep it secret. Scratch my back, we scratch yours...etc....

Kind of obvious now that Trump has won.

 Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Juan Merchan had already delayed sentencing by more than four months to come after the election — and has given himself until Tuesday to decide if the conviction should still stand, CNN said.
