China wants everyone to believe that it has a lock on the 17 rare earth elements, some of which are used to produce devices using the latest technology.  The truth is, China does not have a lock on anything.  It doesn't control rare earth elements, not even close. 

The United States was once self-sufficient in mining and refining its own rare earth elements. We now only have one operating mine, the Mountain Pass Mine operated by MP Materials in the Mojave Desert. Why is that?  Are these mines used up?  No, far from it.  The U.S is sitting on huge reserves of untapped REE as well as easily accessible REE.  But, due to insane, woke, Democrat regulation, even the one U.S. mine, MP Materials,  has to stop/start operations due to moronic environmental regulations.  Most of these REE's are in non-arable, worthless desert land. The truth is that China will produce these REE's for next to nothing, and U.S. mines have no economic incentive to get to work producing them.

Rare Earth Elements is the very first thing Trump should slap tariffs on.  Do it before China ramps up more rhetoric about halting shipments to the US. In fact, Biden should have done this 4 years ago, the worthless limp-dick piece of ****.

Even what U.S.'s MP Materials mines in the Mojave, it ships to China for separation and refinement. Idiots believe China controls the global flow of these metals.  But, it only does so because the U.S. (and other mineral-rich countries) is too scared to tariff China and produce their own minerals. Ninety percent of Americans are indoctrinated idiots who have been taught by Biden and Dems to fear the sick, fat Dragon.

The entire desert southwest is lousy with rare earth elements.  But, not just the Southwest, but many other areas of the US. For that matter, so are a number of South American countries.  The environmentalists together with lazy politicians allowing Chinese dumping of REE's in the US destroyed our mining industry.  If Xi Jinping were really smart (he's actually not that smart) he'd shut his mouth and continue exporting cheap REE's to the US to continue the suppression of our mining industry.

Look how Iran's attempt to control Syria has weakened Iran.  If Turkey or Israel tried to do the same, they would only be weakened militarily by trying to hold onto that land. Still, I think Turkey will try to take a sizeable chunk to "protect Turkey from the Kurds".  Israel likely knows better.

the reason that the companies gave for not starting operations was low prices for their output. They were waiting for prices to come up and then would get it going. The main hold up was not environmentalists but rather the Native American tribes and Ranchers. I guess the ranchers figured out that their access to precious water would be diminished in some way.

No, it was environmentalists too - at least in California it was. Perhaps not in Nevada.

The environmentalists came in at first and then faded away. And then at the last minute.. the Fort McDermitt Indian reservation and the ranchers appealed but they were ruled against and so that completes that saga.
