I've fired several bosses, it always turned out for the better.

A taste of poverty can also change one's perspective.

I worked in an industry where you have to be willing to gamble millions of dollars every day to be a business owner.
You're gambling on tools, personnel to keep on hand, future demand, competitive bidding that isn't so "competitive" that you lose money on a contract..
You WILL lose money on some contracts, especially if you are competing against Illegal Alien Scabs.
I certainly was not cut out to be in such a high stakes game like that.
ME....all I had to do was show up every day ready to work with a valid license and a paid up union dues receipt.
I took great pride in being able to contribute to the success of my Union Contractor's business. 
Being a Union Contractor his clientele tended to be more "Up Scale"...instead of "Low Rent ****" which I greatly appreciated.
Having a company owned truck [and gas card] to drive everyday was like having a $1000 bonus every month when you factor in wear and tear, insurance [yes construction workers pay a higher premium for not working at the same destination every day] 
I don't begrudge my Employer  for taking the Lion's Share after seeing to it that he has paid off his enormous overhead first.

I've had jobs where I got **** on and mistreated, and I still gave 100% until the day I fired them. I ride for the brand, and I'm a top hand. Because the team needed me - and I didn't like the team, either.

I'm a star. I'm a top hand. I'm a producer. They're gonna miss me, the stupid ****. And they're gonna respect me - even if they come to that respect too late to salvage the relationship. 

When I leave a company, there should be an exit interview at which HR makes a pitch to keep me. And those responsible for getting the work completed should have a crisis on their hands, because when I leave a team, there's a big **** hole.

Absolutely maybe.  I give my all also. However, there is only so much of each of us to go around. I prefer to give my family my all also. At the end of the day, my family has more value than any job.

That Union pay scale said it takes 7 years to receive journeyman pay, I did it in 2 years and was in management by 5 years. That was my first real long term job. Guess I could have stayed in the fishing industry working in canneries or floating processors on the Bearing Sea.

You are proving my point. How come you never mentioned 'success' in terms of family? Every word from you was related to jobs. Jobs that you can easily be replaced at.

No less either, since you made an agreement to do it, but only the bare minimum to keep your word.  Give the extra mile to people who do not see you as replaceable, such as family and friends. Never to a place of employment. Bare minimum at work, and extra mile with family/friends. 

Start your own business. Yes, it's hard, but so? Work for yourself. If you have to work hard as hell because you can't help it, then work your *** off to make yourself a lot of money, not somebody else who finds you replaceable.

Given your stated opinion of women I'm kind of surprised by your devotion to family. It doesn't matter how much time or love you put into them, there is a high probability that family unit will be dysfunctional as ****. Just like every other family.

One thing you will never hear my grandkids say is "Grandpa was a slacker"!

Can you do an odd number of facets in origami? I am not sure if the paper is flexible.  It would be like making a Mobius strip and they are definitely a 3D single sided curved surface.

Make a youtube channel. Maybe Subscribers will latch on. It might bring an income.

I disagree COMPLETELY...

WHY?  Because a persons attitude toward work and being productive... is an extension of their OWN LIFE !

Never work hard, and never take pride in your work?  The chances are good you will NEVER be successful in LIFE, NEVER achieve your goals, and NEVER be personally fulfilled !  I mean, DON'T get me wrong...  I don't mean spending your entire life working hard for someone else... and that being your entire focus... BUT, Have goals and a vision BEYOND a "Job"... but let the "job" be you BASE, while you strive for bigger and better things... AND, Hard work is the key... starting off working hard to be successful at a job, but ultimately to be successful for yourself thru investments, property, businesses, etc.. that YOU control!!

Then the hard work becomes a JOY... when you know it's done for yourself, an YOUR family !!  ...BUT, it all starts with a "job"!

100% untrue. We should take pride and develop a productive mindset in areas or projects that we love for ourselves and our family. Not for some mundane useless job that you can be replaced on a whim in. There are many ways to develop a strong work ethic and disciplinary persistence, other than at a place of employment. A job should just be a drop in our ocean. It isn't what we should live for. Create your own ocean.

My views on women are always sarcastic. It's NHB. I say things on purpose on to get some liberals riled up. I have a great family. Happily married for 25 years and two great well adjusted kids. I am not lazy. I am persistent and disciplined in what I believe counts. My kids see me completing triathlons and biking miles and miles. They have seen my focus and work ethic I had put into amateur boxing. Lazy asses can't do that.
