Pentagon to send 3,000 more troops to the US-Mexico borderRoughly 3,000 more active-duty troops will deploy to the southern border, the Pentagon announced Saturday, expanding a major military operation to curb illegal immigration — a central priority of the Trump administration.Around 2,400 soldiers from a Stryker brigade combat team and 500 soldiers from an aviation brigade will join troops already there, bringing the total number of troops at the border to roughly 9,000. Strykers are armored vehicles that were last deployed to the border in 2012.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed the announcement on Saturday, writing on X: “We are dead serious about 100% OPERATIONAL CONTROL of the southern border.”
