Sidney was for another age - another audience. Back in the day, actors "held forth" in their exposition. The only time I saw Denzel play a true villain was in Training Day - and boy did that MFer prove he could play a bad guy. Oh, ****. Reminded me of the rape-dungeon scene in Pulp Fiction, the way that mother **** put the scare into a theater-goer. Fun to watch, is Denzel - always fun to watch.

It's one of those pure Americana films - a must watch. Definitely in my top hundred.

The entire cast was great, too. Ethan Hawke was fantastic, and then the director included so many "fun to watch" guys like Scott Glenn and Mickey Rourke and Tom Berenger and Christopher Walken. VERY reminiscent of Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs in its deft assembly of a cast of fun villains to watch and in giving each an excellent moment in the sun.
