Former Penn swimmer Lia Thomas competed by the rules. The transgender swimmer didn’t make the rules, but she competed by them, winning an NCAA college swimming national championship and multiple other titles. Now the Administration is demanding Thomas and the University of Pennsylvania — the school she swam for — return her medals and apologize to everyone. It’s ridiculous on its face. The basis the Administration claims is that Penn violated federal law by allowing an athlete born male to compete in the female sports category. Lia Thomas competed under her birth name on the men’s team before transitioning and competing on the women’s team.
To remedy the situation, the Department of Education wants to erase Thomas’ participation on the women’s team from history. “The Education Department said in a statement it proposed a resolution agreement to the university under which the Ivy League school would issue a statement saying it will comply with federal law, transfer records and awards won by transgender athletes to athletes assigned female at birth, and issue a letter of apology to the female athletes,”  If the NCAA, Ivy League and UPenn strip Thomas of her records and wins, “Florida’s Emma Weyant, who was representing Virginia at the time, would be elevated to NCAA champion."
 The University has 10 days to comply with the demands, or the case will be referred to the Department of Justice for possible prosecution.
