FOR Decades... DRUGS have been more expensive in America than ANYWHERE else on the planet !  TONS of stories about a drug that costs $1000+ a pill in America, can be bought for $1.95 in Europe, or Asia... THEN, when the drug companies were called out on it... they ALWAYS claimed it was because of "developmental costs".  BUT, if that's true, then WHY were other countries ALWAYS getting the preferred rates, and Americans were ALWAYS getting SCREWED?

YOU'LL have to talk to the Pharmaceutical companies to get the entire story, BUT... you can bet it was probably a combination of:

1)  American politicians in the POCKETS of the "BIG PHARMA" Drug companies !
2)  European socialized healthcare making sweetheart deals !   and...
3)  American leadership NOT making FAIR pricing a priority !

So, Americans have been SUBSIDIZING  the REST of the WORLD relating to drug costs for decades... ALL of THAT ended YESTERDAY... because of the Executive Order that Donald Trump signed... MAKING it the policy of the Trump administration to pay EXACTLY what the LOWEST WORLDWIDE price is for the MILLIONS of drugs that are being sold...  AND, THAT is a MULTI, MULTI Billion $$$ Business, where the Americans have been getting SCREWED, for probably the last 40 years !!  It will save Americans (and the Federal U.S. Government) BILLIONS of $$$, because MOST of those costs have been covered by the American Medicare, and Medicaid systems!

THAT'S HOW Trump's executive order is actually doing this!

I understand the "problem".  What I don't understand is how an Executive Order can dictate to private industry what prices it can get for its products.  Isn't that "price fixing"?  Isn't that illegal?  Isn't that something the Supreme Court will likely kick in the nuts and then stab to death?

If I were Pfizer's CEO, I'd have a team of lawyers ripping that executive order to shreds.   Furthermore, I wouldn't change my pricing at all. In fact, I wouldn't say diddly-boo about it, and simply ignore the executive order.  Now, IF I were Pfizer's CEO, and IF I thumbed my nose at Trump's executive order, what would you think Trump could do about it?

The issue here is one of fairness, and the PROFITEERING by the Pharma giants... The Pharma companies are charging DRASTICALLY different prices, for EXACTLY the same medications... ALL over the world !  What Trump has said with his Exec Order... is that's not FAIR!  and WE (America) want the same prices you are charging your OTHER customers... and that AMERICANS should NOT be your whipping boys.  There are also MANY other actions Trump could take if he wanted to... BUT, the bottom line... Like it or not, Big Pharma has a market that they have to keep happy.. and ESPECIALLY regarding the biggest market in the world ( the American Market)... the LAST thing they need are Americans PROTESTING their PRICE GOUGING of Americans in the streets... I think common sense would say this has now gone BEYOND Pharma Lawyers playing legal games... The EASIEST decision for them would be to use Trumps XO action as justification to EQUALIZE prices thru-out the world...

Also, there are stories out there that they (the Pharma Co.s) have KNOWN this was a PR nightmare for a long time.. when Trump dropped the XO, there was IMMEDIATELY pressure on the Pfizer CEO to resign... I don't think he has yet... but I don't think it's OVER for him either, or THEM !

I believe they also charge different rates to different insurance companies as well.  Tell me why a country can't price their products the way they want?  Why would I need to be "fair" in pricing a gun that you want to purchase, or a car you want to purchase?  This is Socialist thinking.

Big government dictating what prices are "fair" to drug companies.  What I'd rather see is our government making it easier for new drug companies to establish manufacturing plants in the US who can compete with Big Pharma to bring down prices that way. Or, shorten the length of drug patents, so generics can come onto the market quicker.

Well, I have a question for you... and lets leave the federal governments OUT of this... How would you feel about a business that would charge one price for ONE group of people, and another one, 100 time HIGHER for YOU?  I would bet it would PISS you off !  Well, I think THIS pisses Americans off... it pisses ME off for sure.  There have been acts of violence against people and businesses for much less... and NORMALLY this would be taken care of by competition... but, many of the biggest companies today are somewhat insulated from that... and so, there are LAWS on the books, to protect us AGAINST "Price Gouging"...

and THAT is EXACTLY what this is.. to the tune of hundreds of billions of $$$ a year ! ...that American citizens subsidize because much of it is bought with tax money, because MUCH  it's paid for thru Medicare, and Medicaid !
