Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said earlier this week that some prices could rise within weeks because of the tariffs imposed by Trump. The president responded Saturday, posting on his social media platform, Truth Social, that Walmart should “EAT THE TARIFFS” and “not charge valued customers ANYTHING.”
Trump wrote, “Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain. Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year.”

McMillon’s acknowledgment that Walmart might have to boost prices came as a warning sign for the entire retail industry, according to business analysts and experts. McMillon told analysts on a call Thursday that his company could not “absorb all the pressure” from the president’s tariffs.
“If Walmart says they’re struggling [on price], then you know everyone else is going to struggle a little bit more,” Arun Sundaram, senior equity analyst at CFRA Research, told The Washington Post.
