Melania Trump Wins Major Legislative Victory

President Donald Trump has signed the 'Take It Down Act' into law, targeting non-consensual intimate imagery, including deepfakes and revenge porn. The legislation was heavily backed by First Lady Melania Trump as part of her "Be Best" initiative, and gained broad bipartisan support. The law will provide critical protections for victims of online exploitation. Melania said, “Artificial Intelligence and social media are the digital candy for the next generation: sweet, addictive, and engineered to have an impact on the cognitive development of our children.” She added, “But unlike sugar, these new technologies can be weaponized, shape beliefs, and sadly, affect emotions, and even be deadly.”
Trump said, “I want to thank Melania for your leadership in this very important issue. America is blessed to have such a dedicated and compassionate first lady.”
The Take It Down Act criminalizes the publication of non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII), including AI-generated deepfake content. It also requires social media platforms to remove such materials within 48 hours of notification from victims.
Key provisions include making the publication of NCII a federal crime and mandating that websites swiftly remove reported content while taking reasonable steps to eliminate copies. The Federal Trade Commission will enforce the measures.

Won't stop it completely but any attempt to put up a hurdle can't be all bad.
It will obviously fall into the I'll-know-it-when-I-see-it category sometimes.
Whiners will become even less tolerant (funny is already dying).
