As a teen I was always interested in space ships and rockets and aliens and stuff, and how things worked or may have worked. I read a lot of sci fi even back then. (60's). One day in history class we were talking about how the US nuked Japan twice because the little heathen bastadges swore to fight until every man woman and child was killed by the evil round eyes. They say we saved lives by nuking two Japanese cities...

I became interested in how bombs worked and checked out books on them in the library. The books explained that the bombs used in WW2 were uranium and plutonium bombs that used nuclear fission to set off the explosion. It explained that a fission bomb created a nuclear explosion by using conventional explosives to propel a small wedge of enhanced uranium or plutonium into a larger mass of uranium or plutonium to create what was called a critical mass thereby creating a powerful nuclear explosion. It made me wonder how people had thought that up. They were way way way smarter than me or anyone I ever knew. So I read all I could find on this subject.

Then I read about a much more powerful bomb. A bomb orders of magnitudes more powerful called a hydrogen bomb or fusion bomb. This blew me away. How could such a thing work, let alone exist? I read up on it. I was stunned when I found out that the trigger used to set off an H-bomb was a fission bomb, or atomic bomb! That was terrifying! The bomb used the same energy, fusion, that the sun uses to burn in space giving us heat and light! The power of that must be incredible because we are 90 some odd million miles away from this thing! But we had to have an A-bomb to get it going! What had we done? I think it was 1967 in 7th grade that I read these mind blowing facts. Ever since then I lived in repressed fear that one would be used on us but it never was. Thank God. We would all be dead. Mutually Assured Destruction, or MAD and they truly had to be to use them.

I read read up on the Bikini Atoll explosions that were set off in the air. How could we have subjected our world to these things?

As soon as possible we need to leave this crazy planet!
