What is it about the population that makes sampling it subject to Survivorship bias?
Exactly.
Maga people overall are "Good People".Vegas » 18 Jul 2025, 11:31 am » wrote: ↑ That appears to be what MAGAs are doing about this whole Epstein list issue. Since Trump has done some great things, such as deportations, putting foreign nations in their place, ceasing wars, and inducing economic prosperity, then the benefit clearly outweighs the cost of busting him for covering up the list...probably because he was on it.
Well...on the surface, this sounds like a solid argument. However, it's a knee jerk reaction. This is about sex trafficking children. It's not about his affairs and other flaws. His affairs are his business. Nobody should care about those things. But sex trafficking children? There needs to be a line between helping the greater good and morality.
This reminds me of the Vatican and Mother Theresa. She was considered a saint. The world loved her. Well, what you probably didn't know about her is that a lot of her funding came from organized crime. The same type of people who trafficked children. Her hospitals were deplorable. They were dirty, understaffed, and wouldn't survive even a day under the health codes of most developed countries. Her charity received millions and millions of dollars. There was no reason why her hospitals should have been that bad. She used most of the money to expand the Catholic church, not to help the greater good.
The point is that morality and helping the greater good can sometimes clash. What kind of people do we want to be in America? Defend short term gains...that will probably disappear in 4 years anyway, or do we want to be a country that takes the protection of children seriously.
