FINALLY someone on this board says SOMETHING sensible about Coupkraine.
Yes, the Russians are fighting - have always fought - an attrition war. But they are fighting with 21st Century strategies folded in to that old school model. Their strength is precisely the same as America's military in WWII: their industrial base. But unlike the US of WWII, the Russians have the following advantages:
1. They are fighting from supply. They need not maintain a global supply line, which added tremendous costs in equipment, money, and manpower to the WWII US war machine;
2. The Russian government controls its MIC. In WWII, the US government had strategic control of its MIC, as well. But the MIC was feasting at the public trough, growing into a monater that would turn the tables on the government in the aftermath of the war. Less than a generation later, Ike Eisenhower would utter his famous caveat which today reads like prophecy.
3. The Russian military is more reliant on SMALL tech - cheap drones and artillery - than the US military of WWII was. The US military of WWII required historically large and historically expensive super-platforms, as its war was on the other side of the world. It was fighting massive and extremely expensive sea battles for high stakes with the Japanese in the Pacific. The Russians are fighting in their own backyard - whichis why they are fighting, and why they will never, ever accept any peace that does not conform to their unyielding red lines.
4. The Russians have next-gen missile tech. The US is still in beta testing phase at best. And the Russians get their missiles at cost of production. The US pays cost plus outrageous profits, and in addition, the US production capacity lags significantly. What this means is the Russians will have more and better for the next 15-20 years. And by "better," I mean Mach 15 vs Mach 5. Think, rifles vs muskets, for an apt analogy.
The Russians are fighting a puny adversary, but it's headquarters is in Germany, not Coupkraine, and the real enemy is NATO, using Coupkraine as a proxy. Russia has been destroying NATO's expensive toys almost as fast as those toys arrive on the field. M1 Bradley's have the life expectancy of a house fly in Coupkraine, and expensive Patriot Batteries are easily swamped with cheap drones - after which they are blown to smithereens.
Denmark promised 19 of its F-16s to the green t-shirt. Netherlands pledged 24, Norway 12, and Belgium 30. No one knows how many of these 82 promised jets have been delivered three and a half years in, because that's classified. But what we DO know is that you never hear a **** word in the western press about the F-16s - and given the western press's commitment to turning every possible lemon into lemonade for Coupkraine, this tells you how useful those platforms are against the Russian machine. I grant that this could change if NATO pilots ever take to the skies against the Russians - emphasis on could. I just don't have the information to assess whether Russia's jets and pilots are better than NATO's transgendered jets and pilots.
In the summer offensive last year, NATO threw everything it had at Russia and put Russia on its back foot briefly. But before long, all of those dangerous toys were scrap and the Coupkraine army was being inched backward. Kursk has been denazified and is back in Russian hands. NATO directed the sabotage operation against the Russian heavy bombers, exploiting the fact Russia was honoring its agreement with NATO to keep those bombers visible by satellite. That was a major coup for NATO, but it was a one-off, ultimately. Expensive for Russia, yes - but not important unless and until NATO goes mask-off and enters the war without the Coupkrainian beard. And this is extremely unlikely to happen. NATO is scared, and Russia is glad of it.
