The lawsuit was filed on July 18, 2025, after the Wall Street Journal published a story alleging that Trump's name appeared on a 2003 birthday greeting for Jeffrey Epstein, which included a sexually suggestive drawing and a reference to shared secrets. 
Trump has called the alleged birthday greeting "fake" and stated that the article defamed him and caused him significant financial and reputational damage. He is demanding at least $10 billion in damages
