Trump should raise the Brazil coffee tariff to 100%, just to piss you off. (Even further)

This right here has caused this thread to fail. That is why the OP is trying to reframe his own thread. Read this before it gets PG'dFuelman » 18 Aug 2025, 8:25 am » wrote: ↑ FYI:
Donald Trump's administration imposed a 50% tariff on Brazilian coffee imports to the US primarily as a form of political pressure rather than for purely economic reasons.
Here's why:
Support for Jair Bolsonaro: Trump has repeatedly voiced his support for former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, a right-wing ally who is currently on trial in Brazil facing charges related to plotting a coup after the 2022 election results and refusing to leave office quietly. Trump has characterized the case against Bolsonaro as a "witch hunt".
Disapproval of Brazilian Supreme Court: Trump has also criticized the actions of the Brazilian Supreme Court, particularly Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who is overseeing the case against Bolsonaro and has taken steps to curb online speech. Trump views these actions as undermining free elections and freedom of speech.
Leverage in other areas: While Trump has historically cited trade deficits as a justification for tariffs, the US actually has a trade surplus with Brazil. Therefore, the coffee tariffs, among others, appear to be a tactic to exert influence on Brazil's internal political affairs and potentially to achieve other goals, such as limiting the influence of BRICS countries.
In essence, the tariffs on Brazilian coffee, and other Brazilian products, were implemented by the Trump administration as a means of expressing strong disapproval of the Brazilian government's actions against Bolsonaro and to pressure them to alter their stance on the matter.

Quit buying your Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Oatmeal Macchiato Frappe like you gay boys all love and buy a can of coffee to brew it for yourself! A 3 lb. can of Costco's Kirkland Premium is still under $20 (which is excellent), and that breaks out to around 40 cents a cup. So those that aren't happy with the price increase can instead make the sane choice and SAVE $4.60 cents a cup rather than pay any increase.
Or do you think people have no other options but to pay $5+ for a cup of coffee outside of their home?
Don't assume that everyone else is as ignorant as you and can't (or won't) change their habits if and when the need arises.
That's the problem with all you Trump-hating liberals. You look at just one possible outcome that will cost Americans more, and in your idiocy and blind, Trump hatred, you don't consider how people will always make adjustments to compensate for it, just like they do if the price of beef goes up, people switch to chicken or pork. And of course, once people cut down how much they drink because of the higher price, Brazil, and any other coffee-producing countries will slowly reduce that price based on the lower demand, since the supply remains unchanged. From there, let's see how Brazil copes with the recession that economists all say is imminent for them this year. Think the 50% tariff they've now been hit with won't crush their economy? And how do you think Brazil's coffee exports will be affected in comparison to coffee exports from Colombia, which are only paying a 10% Trump tariff? Think Brazil can find another country to make up for the amount of coffee that they lose in sales to the US?
Or can't you ignorant liberals even understand that basic economic reality of the laws of supply and demand?
But the question is WHY....
